Stealing ideas - TDL

Team: 2022-23 Carolina Hurricanes
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 9, 2023
Published: Feb. 9, 2023
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The first two trades have been on here a lot - not sure if values are perfect but hopefully in ball park.

Bennett I've seen a couple of times in the past but not too much. I doubt Florida is willing to move him, but assuming they did what would be the ask? Again, very doubtful move but these teams do have a history of trading together and even trading for a 2C w/ term very surprisingly..plus Panthers have shown they're willing to shake things up quite a bit. This doesn't help them this year obviously but if they're not gaining in the playoff race this sets them up for a super quick re-tool for next year. Just a thought, hope nobody gets bent out of shape over it :)
Trades
1.
CAR
  1. Meier, Timo ($1,500,000 retained)
  2. 2024 4th round pick (VGK)
Additional Details:
8x8.5ish extension
SJS
  1. Morrow, Scott [Reserve List]
  2. 2023 1st round pick (CAR)
  3. 2024 2nd round pick (CAR)
  4. 2024 3rd round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
Is this enough? Tried looking at recent similar examples (Cat, Fiala) and think this is in the ballpark of those moves
2.
STL
  1. Coghlan, Dylan
  2. 2025 2nd round pick (CAR)
3.
CAR
  1. Bennett, Sam
Additional Details:
Probably not likely unless they really fall out of the race and want to go a different route but these teams have a history of surprising trades of 2Cs w/ term out of nowhere :)
FLA
  1. Drury, Jack
  2. Honka, Anttoni
  3. 2023 2nd round pick (CAR)
  4. 2024 1st round pick (CAR)
Additional Details:
No idea what it would cost - assuming Panthers are open to moving him what would it cost?

Umm the Blues might bite on that. Depends on how good a 23 pick he can fetch.

I initially planned to send a 23 3rd but already moved a couple of picks in ‘23 before making the Mikk trade so I tried spacing it out a bit. Figured ‘25 isn’t super appealing but I’d be open to doing a different pick.

That's certainly going all in for a couple of years at the expense of futures. Canes are one of few good team that could do it though with their future cap.

I think that’s a lot to spend on a guy like Bennett. He is a good player but everyone in Florida has inflated numbers last year. Not sure you see another 28 goal season from Bennett. That’s a lot to give for a guy who will most likely be a 45-50 point guy but the term is a positive

Yeah it’s Somewhat mortgaging the future and all of these are unlikely. Maybe one of the two big moves I mentioned happen (or a variation). To your point tho it still lets us keep the core and add a couple big pieces to it that fit Long term timeline too

That’s fair. I wasn’t really sure what the cost would be there. Imagine it’s more than what we paid in the Tro deal since he wasn’t coming off of good years like Bennett was. Maybe it’s something between that deal and this offer?

I don't think Morrow is going to be on the table for any kind of trade, not even Meier, though a prospect + a whole bunch of picks sounds good. I think it'll be a guy like Gunler or Ponomarev.

If we can make it happen without him or Nikishin I’d be thrilled. But also not opposed to throwing one of them in for a guy like Meier.

Oh for sure. I would hope that the Canes would be willing to dangle a top prospect for Meier, even if it's Morrow (as much as I want to hold on to him). I just think that GMDW and co value Morrow more than that. I really think it would be a forwrd prospect. San Jose's forward group is looking rather thin at present and their futures up front are even more so.

Based on recent interviews with GMDW and RBA it seems like canes are willing to make a big move for one player and dangle pieces like this years first or morrow for it. Based on some comments on threads on here plus what I’ve read the sharks biggest prospect needs are on the back end which is why they’d prefer morrow or Nikishin over guys like Gunler Blake Drury Gleb etc. Few guys said they’d prefer morrow to Jarvis even. Not that I’d want to include Jarvis in this deal.
