Trades

COL
  1. Monahan, Sean
Additional Details:
When we offersheeted ROR Feaster forgot that he played a few games in the KHL so due to some CBA clause he would have had to go through waivers if the offer sheet wasn't matched and the compensation would still go to Colorado. The Monahan pick was part of the compensation.

  1. Giordano, Mark
Additional Details:
If he didn't sign with the Flames after leaving to the KHL
3.

BOS
  1. Gaudreau, Johnny
Additional Details:
The Flames had identified Kucherov and Gaudreau as potential 5th or 6th round pick in the draft. They lost Kucherov as he went off the board earlier then expected and didn't want to lose their other sleeper pick so they picked him higher than they wanted to after catching wind of Boston having interest. If they didn't find out about Boston's interest than they'd have left him on the board

CGY
  1. Puljujärvi, Jesse [Reserve List]
EDM
  1. Tkachuk, Matthew
Additional Details:
A three team trade sending the 3rd overall pick to Calgary, the 4th overall pick to Columbus and 6th heading to Edmonton fell apart after Edmonton caught wind of Columbus picking Dubois. Details are unknown
5.
STL
  1. Hanifin, Noah
  2. Lindholm, Elias
Additional Details:
Hamilton was almost sent to St. Louis for Colton Parayko and other pieces before the deal fell apart. We'd have never gotten Lindholm or Hanifin if this trade happened so I banished them
6.
CGY
ANA
  1. Rittich, David
Additional Details:
The Flames discovered Rittich scouting someone else. If they had never scouted that person than Rittich wouldn't be here

Not for Hanifin and Lindholm though. We'd have lost both

Yep. On Day 1 of the draft Bill Peters said that he went to sleep convinced that Hamilton was going to St. Louis. Elliott Friedman managed to dig up that Colton Parayko was involved in discussions but the deal fell apart. My guess is that Peters liked Lindholm and Hanifin from Carolina and nudged Treliving in that direction.

No, Peters said he was convinced that Hamilton was going to "another team" and Friedman guessed it was St. Louis, and guessed it involved Parayko.

They dug up that St. Louis inquired so it is an obvious guess. I think that if St. Louis was involved it's a no brainer that Parayko would have been even if it wasn't confirmed.

1- Got a source for that "they dug up" claim? Because your last claims about what Peters said and what Friedman wrote were demonstrably false.

2- Funny stuff! I'd love to hear you explain how it's a "no-brainer" that Parayko was in an offer.

This is a paragraph from a FlamesNation article. Typically very accurate when it comes to Flames news. Were spot on with details on the failed Zucker and Kadri deals and usually break all Flames signings and deals a few hours before deals are made. I think that it's a no brainer because they asked for Hanifin in the Carolina deal. Parayko is clearly better than Hanifin now but at the time they were fairly similar.

The Flames had been looking to deal Dougie Hamilton before the beginning of the 2018-19 season and were involved in multiple discussions at the draft surrounding just that. One of the conversations was with the St. Louis Blues, and according to Friedman, a “massive” deal between the two organizations nearly reached the finish line. In fact, Flames head coach Bill Peters was quoted saying he thought Hamilton was going somewhere else other than Carolina when he went to bed the night following the first round. The good money is on “somewhere else” being St. Louis, Missouri.

The potential return from the Blues is unclear, but it’s fair to assume Colton Parayko, who too was being shopped at the draft, would’ve been coming the other way. Instead, the Flames pulled the trigger with Carolina and finally found the Gaudreau/Monahan duo’s missing piece.
