I think Cgy says no... I think the value is there but Mang is on the rise, and for better or worse I think they keep him.

The problem is DeMelo will make a mil more and this is only a 20 man roster. Also Ottawa doesn’t need help reaching the floor and Ryan isn’t a cap dump anyway</div></div>
Totally forgot to add to the actual roster haha. Like I said the teams a disaster.

Gaudreau and Meier
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ItWasIn</b></div><div>You think Timo Meier has peaked? He's a 60pt player at 23, he's not a finished product. By the way, Gaudreau had 61pts in his age 23 season.</div></div>
In a shortened season with a missed camp - as we have seen from many players missing camp reduced output. Look at the seasons surrounding it.
I did not say he has peaked, as he probably can learn more defensive skills, but he has not really shown anything special outside of 1 season. also not that it really matters but 9 of his points came in a 5 game period.

Gaudreau and Meier
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ItWasIn</b></div><div>This isn’t Johnny Gaudreau for Milan Lucic. Meier is 23, like I said you get 3 years of control. After that he’s an RFA with arb rights, you have the option to do a long term deal on a 26 year old player. A decline for Meier isn’t happening until he’s in his 30’s. You’d be getting 7-10 really solid seasons out of him.
Not sure what more you could ask for in a Gaudreau deal</div></div>
A 10M baseline for Arbitration... ya that sounds like a heck of a deal for a 60 point guy AT BEST.

Because I think it is a bad trade that would be the result of a management team panicking and pulling the trigger like the Flames have done so often in the past that have lead to acquiring goodish, but decreasing return players.
Any fan of Calgary has seen this song and dance enough to know that it would be a mistake.

Gaudreau and Meier
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>ItWasIn</b></div><div>A 23yr old RW that can score you a minimum of 20 and plays with an edge. There's also cost certainty, you get him for 3 seasons at 6 and after that he's still an RFA, so worst case scenario you get 4 years of control. The Flames can keep Gaudreau, whatever the value is now, it drops once the puck drops in 20/21. He says he would stay in CGY his whole career, maybe that's true, but there have been rumblings he wasn't happy with his last negotation. He will demand 9+ from the Flames to stay. Maybe I'm an idiot, but I'd rather have a 25yr old making 6 than an undersized forward in his 30's making close to double digits in a relatively flat cap world.</div></div>
Rumblings from who? Meier is due for a huge payrise the year after Johnny. Physical guys have shorter careers on average and fall of a cliff a lot quicker than pure skill guys.

Gaudreau and Meier
<div class="quote"><div class="quote_t">Quoting: <b>CheechYou</b></div><div>Both teams play in the west, against STL, VGK, etc. I want a highly-skilled physically-dominant top-line forward who is still growing/learning and plays the game hard at age 23, and who's shown this in the playoffs, over a 5'-9, 150lb -- though very talented -- forward who nonetheless isn't that much more talented to justify the other pros that Timo has over Johnny.</div></div>
Ya because no diminutive skilled forward has ever had a ton of success. True the value of a big body is important but it also means a shorter career and more injury-prone.

Meier's been consistently getting better and better, is physically dominant and gets to the gritty areas, is only 23, while Gaudreau, while very talented, has been progressively getting worse and is 27.</div></div>
One down season is progressively worse - give your head a shake to remover the Homer you have lodged in there. Meier has one season above 50 points. Johnny has one below 60.

Oh ya, Ken King is a garbage person who would cut costs whenever possible - the issue is your values are off, It would be Marner with retention and a 1st coming back for Tkachuk and a second. And that would only be if Johnny got shipped out.

I won't deny a soft spot for Benny. Unfortunately he shoes just enough flashes to keep a lot of fans high on him. After these playoffs inparticular it would be nice to see if he can pull a Couturier.
