Initial Creation Date: Sep. 26, 2020
Published: Sep. 26, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Probably a lot of doubtful trades here, and some of the last few were just throw-away trades cause I wasn't sure what to get for Kerfoot and Engvall. But talk about bolstering the right side by sacrificing depth. This would be a hell of a roster shakeup.

I think Cgy says no... I think the value is there but Mang is on the rise, and for better or worse I think they keep him.

Lol leafs really hate the oilers ehh. That’s ok I don’t think too many oilers fans value anything on the leafs as worth the time of day.

I was just using the Athletics suggested value to jersey which the beat writer for jersey seemed at least amenable to. I'm sure some details could be shifted somewhat.

I would've thought a solid starter that isn't yet searching for UFA dollars like the other goalies in the market and a good wi get in return wouldn't be a terrible return for an up and coming winger and a 3rd. You're still getting proven youth in return for potential. Lighten Freddie's load with a decent backup and I suspect you get better results.

Probably gonna cost 15th ++. Especially if NJ retains salary.

I don't know if "hate the Oilers" has anything to do with this. Pool party hasn't played in the show for over a year, and was suspect to begin with in Edmonton. In this trade you get a decent shutdown defenceman in exchange for a guy that has not lived up to his potential and may never.

Where would holl slide into oilers blueline?
Klef larsson
Nurse bear
Russell/jones/broberg/Bouchard/benning
Sorry I don’t see him replacing a top 4 option and 3rd pairing is very crowed with options I’d personally prefer any combination over holl. Don’t see a fit respectfully decline

I don't recall saying jersey was retaining anything.. and you're still getting a solid, younger LD with a lot of upside when given opportunity. There's always alternative trade options but Id say the value is there with the opportunity to sign Dermott for cheap.

Swap johnsson and holl then and add an extra pick for Calgary to make up the difference. You might not value anything on the leafs but a scoring winger that had an off year due to an injury on the cheap for assets you aren't even using should accomplish the goal.

Value is not close. This doesn’t help NJ. Also never said you would retain salary but the option is there in case the leafs need it. Dermott is a bottom pairing d. We have enough of those in NJ.

But jp is an asset plan to use next year. I personally don’t think these teams are good trade partners because both teams are in a position to need to move out as much as take in. That being said you probably wouldn’t want to do a kassian for johnsson or kerfoot not sure I would either but that’s the more realistic type of trade between these teams

I mean more seasoned experts seem to think the value here is pretty close. We can agree to disagree, but I'll go with their analysis.

Seems reasonable. I was honestly just looking for a young winger on the cheap that performed relatively well that could be exchanged for someone with more experience and proven worth. It's entirely possible it doesn't work, but I'm sure it's work with someone

Its simply because you arent taking the situation into account that you think this is a fair deal. Freddy has one year left on his contract with no guarantee of re-signing along with the fact that there are much better options in FA that you can get without giving up one of your best young players. The other piece is a guy who just had a season ending injury making about the same as Mangiapane is projected to make, with no guarantee again of him going to back to form. Thats why this deal is an easy no from the Flames. If were talking healthy AJ and signed Freddy then maybe its fair but as it stands no way.

Corey Masisak’s take (Devils beat writer): Severson was the Devils’ best defenceman this past season, has three years left on a reasonable contract and is young enough to still be good when New Jersey is ready to be a contender again. Put all of that together and the Devils are going to need a substantial return to move him. Dermott is three years younger, so he would fit a timeline centered around Nico Hischier and Jack Hughes better, and has been played pretty well as a young defenceman on a strong team. And the Devils don’t have a 2020 second-round pick, so that could be enticing.

Two concerns I could see the Devils having: 1) Dermott is the same size as fellow lefties Will Butcher and Ty Smith, though his style of game might be different enough for that to not matter. 2) Do they believe in Dermott’s upside? He’s played 17 minutes per game for the Leafs, with some instances of getting more responsibility because of injuries. If the Devils’ primary goal is to add more young, good players to build around Hischier and Hughes, then this offer could be tempting. Though I could also see the Devils feeling like it is an “almost there, but not quite enough” kind of offer as well, especially because Severson could put up better numbers playing for Lindy Ruff and increase his value.

That’s one guys opinion which is no more relevant than mine. Lol. And the 2nd round pick is more enticing becuse we don’t have one as opposed to a a first. . Lol.

Taking a journalism class and a couple extra English courses in college doesn’t mean you know more about hockey than someone on an Internet board. How do you know I don’t work in hockey or played at a high level?
