I modeled the Toronto trade on one i saw earlier today. I dont think the canes can trade both Fleury and Pesce so i went with a 1st and an early 2nd rounder instead.

I think everyone needs to take a break from Nylander and Pesce.

Freddy, sure. Liljigren.... sure.... Nylander... that's a lot. If I were to take this deal, I'd want our 2020 first back, and even then - idk if the team gets better. We lose a ton of our offence on this trade. Besides, is Pesce still good good? He's been injured a lot and he's locked up for a long time. That could either be fantastic or terrible if he's constantly injured or not at 100%

This season is the first time he has any major injury issues. I honestly can not remember any other injuries he has had while missing a few games each year. I thought this trade made sense from both sides because the canes get the big top 6 upgrade they need, while the leafs get the top 4 rhd they need plus 7 mil in cap space. With an extra first the leafs have further ammunition to go after adding another defensman or adding a cheaper cost controlled winger like rakell maybe.

I think its just a common consensus that each team has a bit of what the other lacks.

Yeah idk anything about Pesce, I've just heard he's been perpetually out this year with tons of surgery problems etc. No doubt the guy is amazing, and the fact he's locked up for a long time is great, but I would hope he could get back to his usual self if we did somehow trade for him

I mean he played 61 games this season but had a shoulder injury and decided to have surgery when the season was stopped. He is really on par with slavin defensively he just gets no attention with Slavin and Hamilton on the top pair. If the canes traded him it would be a huge loss thats why any canes fan says it needs to be nylander in return if he is going to be moved

To me, for all that, it would have to be for Dougie. That probably loses us the extra first but it’s just future trade bait for Leafs anyway

The only way dougie is moved is if the canes cant resign him. I also feel the leafs need a dman who is a better defender which would be pesce

Agree they’re less likely to want to move Dougie but he’s the better player and more of what Toronto needs. Their De’s biggest problem wasn’t defending as much as couldn’t trust Barrie, Ceci, or Marincin to get the puck out of the zone safely.

Probably, definitely if had more than one year on his deal. Switching Pesce and first for Hamilton Is still nylander + though. Adding the fact Nylander and Andersen cap hits are higher than the actual cash they’re owed helps Canes too as they aren’t the richest of teams

The canes new owner has no issue spending money on the ice he just refuses to pay off the ice. I think the trade makes sense for both teams
