Why would OTT trade a 26yo RFA for a 34yo pending UFA and add a pick upgrade on top of it?

Stasny + VGK 2021 1st for Brown

Not going to lie i.got mixed up with picks and couldn't edit it, wanted to do 21'devil's second and sens 21' 3rd so Ottawa got the upgrade, send need a get c to shoulder some load for their younger guys.

A good comparable trade is Backes + 1st for Kase

As I said, Stasny + 1st for Brown.

Teams in cap hell are going to be paying dearly to drop bad contracts.
Think Marleau and a first for a bag of pucks. Teams like Ottawa are in the drivers seat and they are unlikely to take on multi year bad contracts and they certainly are not going to give up a core piece like Brown for a high playing player that will sit on their cap and does not fit into their long term plans

I don't think stastny is as bad as those guys have gotten but ya you're probably not wrong, I did a different deal in my armchair gm. I do think stastny has some value to sens in regards to veteran help and I think he can still do 50-55 pts.
