Absolutely no from the red wings. Tj is older and declining and has a huge cap hit. Lightning add a major piece for us to take him or you can keep his cap hit

He is not declining, nor does he have a huge cap hit.

No chance we are taking this guys cap hit for free. if tb doesn't add they can keep his cap hit. Cap space is a weapon and we will use it and not take terrible contracts even for free

This is a pass all the way around

As a Detroit fan I agree, I wouldnt do this unless we cannot get a guy that we could be paid to take on as a stopgap 2C e.g. Turris. Johnson is good enough that he should be going to a better team for a small asset, a 2nd might be optimistic, hard to tell at this stage.

Yes his cap hit is fairly large but not enough where tampa needs to add a major piece, maybe swap the picks around but thats really it.

its not a terrible contract, but hey, you do you.

he wouldn't even be availalble if gourde/palat didnt have no trades and they didnt give the goalie 75 million bucks

No we aren't taking tj us tb adds something. You have cap issues and have to make moves. We have space, so it's going to cost you to acquire that cap space

You are wrong 13 goals and 17 assists is not worth that cap hit and length.

in case you forgot, there was a pandemic that cut the season short.

its a reasonable cap hit for a guy with his production and position flexibility. he plays on a loaded team which has seen his minutes diminish, he will be right back into the 50's in point production on a team that gets him back up to 17ish minutes a night.

This^ people forget he was playing bottom 6 most of the season. hes a good 2nd line center or winger and can play on the PK

A major piece. 4 more years at 5M for a guy who hasn't produced well in 2 years is not good.

5m for 4 more years will take him to 34. He is a major decline, tb adds a major piece or they can keep that cap hit

and what is that major piece? cause if youre asking for a top prospect of ours or a 1st rounder, Tampa will look elsewhere

I think you should look elsewhere, the wings stated they aren't taking on longer then 2 year contracts unless there is significant pieces coming back.

And we are super close to the playoffs that it helps us how? We are 2-3 years away which puts him at 33/34 making 5M. Not a good fit

I did look it up. 5M for 4 years and 31 points. Red wings aren't taking long term contracts without being compensated, that's the part that most people aren't understanding

I mentioned elsewhere Coburn is not leaving the Lightning. If you recall last offseason, he said he and his family were looking to stay in Tampa after he retires. He's still a good 7th defenseman as we saw when he stepped in against Boston after having not played since Feb/Mar, but its either retirement or 1 more year as a depth defender.

I think people are selling Johnson short thinking he's not worth anything, since he's now in the position Miller was in when he was relegated to our third line last season. Johnson is a little older, but he's easily a 20+ goal scorer 2-way forward who can play center or wing. Getting any meaningful return is going to depend on what teams are in the market for an experienced 2nd line forward.

And yes, cannot have Paquette in the East tears of joy

enjoy continuing to be horrible because you won't trade a late 2nd for a good 2nd liner (who your current GM knows and likes) and a 4th because "reasons"

Cant look at this season for stats as he was on the 3rd and 4th line alot and was a shortened season. hes a 20 goal scorer easily and could probably put up 50-60 points in detroit on the 2nd line

Cool we will be bad for 1 more year and won't have a 5M pylon stopping us from signing important pieces at that time
