Most of these are agreeable to me except Dumoulin. That is a +5 contract. How many good top pairing defensemen you see in the NHL making this kind of money? He's the most defensively solid guy in our core, has been consistently excellent at it for years, works with anyone we pair him with, etc. Absolutely incredible contract.
I think you're mostly right, but I'd disagree on Sceviour, Pettersson, DeSmith, and Dumoulin.
Sceviour's contract is for 1 year and barely over $1m -- for what he brings, that is a fair contract. I would put it at 0 on your scale, not -1.
Petterson's contract is also not a great contract. He's a number 4 defender making slightly over $4m. To me that is a fair contract, if not slightly overpaid at this stage of the contract (but should earn it over the years). I would put it at a 0 as well on your scale, not +1.5.
DeSmith is a goalie that is making over $1m and played in the AHL last year, any way you slice it - if you are making over $1m and playing in the AHL, then it is not a good contract. It's not awful, but it's not good. I would put it at a -1, not +.05. (although I see that you're not basing it off last year and only the upcoming contract years, so you may be right on this one - I'll leave this up anyway just to show you my thinking)
Dumoulin is a good defender, but he is not going to put many points. A $4m contract seems reasonable for that kind of defenseman -- you may be able to stretch it to $5m, but then it just starts to get too high. If he was a free agent right now, I see him getting $5.5m -- in free agency, everyone gets about ~$1m more than they really should, so I think he's got a good contract right now, but not anything crazy in terms of his value -- and I think he's a really solid player. I would put it at a +1, not +2.
