The Worst BUT Most Likely Offseason Outcome

Team: 2020-21 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Sep. 23, 2020
Published: Oct. 2, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
The gist: They won't actually commit to any significant changes & they spend assets to acquire goaltending. They then overpay to bring Brodie back (bringing him back at all is a huge mistake unless its at a massive discount ie. 3 years max at $4 mill or less which isn't fair to him tbh)

SO Despite all the bluster about "shaking up the core" they won't out of a combined mindset of overvaluing their players, a misguided fear of "losing" the trade in conjunction and their even more ridiculous perception they are in a window to win now. Hence another year wasted being mediocre. Sadly this will lead to fans ultimately turning on (insert whipping boy du Joire) because they refused to trade Gio/Monahan/Gaudreau until it was way too late (ala Iginla.)

Swap out the "depth" signings with whatever "physical, big bodied, character" veteran players on league minimum deals you see fit and it always equates to a cap team struggling to make playoffs / out of the first round again.

This is the sad but accurate truth. Great to stabilize the crease, but it really wasn't a glaring issue last year. Not enough top end grit, a ton of talent, but a very easy team to play against when the top 6 is out there, other than Tkachuk.
I agree with Brodie being a huge mistake, I see Brian Campbell in the sense that those smooth skating d men are great, until they're not and then they're really bad, rather bring back Gutafsson at 3 - 3.5
I still don't like Bennett as a 3C, start him at 4C and see if he can tighten up defensively, he was great at beating up a depleted Winnipeg team but the quick D of Dallas exposed him. I think if you can get another 3C like Haula then you can play Bennett and Ryan on the same line and get Bennett's defensive game to improve. Don't know where that money comes from though.

Doesn't sound like Arizona is going to trade Kuemper now. Meanwhile, TSN radio had Markstrom not interested in Edmonton or Detroit, but interested in Vancouver, Calgary, Colorado, and Toronto. I think we'll see more change than this in Calgary. Also, 3 years walks Mangiapane straight to free agency - I imagine they'll do a 2 year deal, and then get back to the table one more time.

Bennett has earned the 3C spot. Not only has he earned it, but it's also about putting players in a position to succeed - and the 3C is that spot for Benny. Especially as the Flames do introduce more grit into their line-up - they need more minutes for Bennett. Lucic - Bennett - Dube should start together.
