He'll get term elsewhere, so if you don't give it to him, you don't get him IMO.

Tanev is not a 1st line player IMO, he's a good #3 or #4 option but he will cost a premium as you indicated given the lack of RHD guys available. I think he does net $4.5M to $5M for 5 years but I don't think he's worth it personally and someone the Leafs should chase as a first line guy. I think you move Holl and replace him with Dylan D as a cheaper option and go all in Alex P.

Yeah man your point is valid but the reality is you have to spend money to have a hockey team. There are haves and have-nots in this league and the have-nots are less likely to land a free agent like Chris Tanev unless he really wants to be there.
