How I would start next year

The Columbus trade could be with another team.

Buyout Alzner. Juulsen's contract is like Evans. 1st year is waiver exempted but not the second.

Suzuki had great flashes with Kovalchuk, and with Drouin. Let's try it and look for Kovalchuk's replacement during the year if it works out. If not, let's put a clause that allows Kovalchuk to go back in the KHL in the contract

1. I'm not sure why the Habs would trade Kulak just yet. The next NHL season will be very compressed and there will likely be more injuries as a result. Teams already need to be 8 deep on defense in an ordinary season, in a compressed schedule you might need to be 9 or 10 deep.
2. I like the idea of the Habs trading for a second 1st round pick but that just seems to be a lot for the 21st pick overall unless there is a guy still available at 21 that the Habs had much higher on their board.

I agree. But I don't want Kulak to take soemone like Fleury's spot on defense, and I'm pretty sure that Julien would give more ice time to Kulak than to a young guy.
As for the pick, I just wouldn't want fans to scream that the offer was bad. We could easily take off the 4th rounder, or change a second by a 3rd.
