bailey led the team in points this postseason. For a team that is already short guys who can get points, shipping out Bailey for the sake of keeping a first round pick seems like a foolish move to me.
As for the replacements, I like Wahlstrom, but the fact is he’s done nothing but disappoint since he was drafted. That’s just the truth. Struggled at BC, struggled at Bridgeport. Sounds like he’s doing alright in Sweden right now, but it all is a matter of can he put it together in America. Trotz seemed to signal he doesn’t understand the way NHL hockey is played when they sent him down last year.
I wonder what their plan for JHS is - I’m not sold on him, obviously, but if they qualified him to trade him that doesn’t make any sense given that teams balked on giving up anything for him, twice. He is worthless right now and that relationship is pretty fractured. I’m not giving up on that one yet.
And there’s no way to spin that Aho is better than Leddy. Someday maybe, but not now. So, that’s two noticeable downgrades, and this specific islander team doing nothing after making the ECF would be a bad move. Metro is gonna get significantly better, again. Namely Carolina and Columbus, who isles were fighting for a playoff spot before the pause. This team is worse than the one that made the conference final, and other teams are gonna get better, that’s the gist if you feel me
Disagree on Bailey. Props to him for leading the team in points, but id bet ho-sang can be better than Bailey.
Wahlstrom did not struggle in Bridgeport. He had 9 points in his first 13 games - after he was sent down from the NHL , Thompson told him not to worry about points, to only focus on his play away from the puck. To be honest, I can care less what trotz says about a rookie, great coach but his entire career he's had friction with them - trotz called mattias Ekholm the worst defenseman hes ever seen - Ekholm has been one of the leagues best defensive defenseman over his career.
When wahlstrom was up with with isles, he had over a 50% xGF % (expected goals for) in 7 of his 9 games. He ranked 2nd only behind barzal. Expected goals is a stat that measures the quality of a players shot attempts. Some shots are more valuable than others based on how likely they are to result in goals. Wahlstrom was extremely unlucky that he didn't score, because he was one of the teams best generators of offense. To put that in perspective , Wahlstrom had more games with an xgf over 50 than Kaapo Kakko had all season. Not saying wahlstrom will be the better player, just pointing out how impressive wahlstrom was in his time with the isles.
I doubt ho-sang plays another game for the isles. The last time he was up with the isles he had the best defensive numbers on the team and still got sent down. Don't know what the issue is.
Carolina will get better, CBJ I doubt it.
