I put Lehtonen and Barabanov in the press box because we don't really know what they are in the NHL. If they make their way into the lineup, great, if not, I wanted to account for that as well.

I think this is a reasonable direction to go. But I’d steer well clear of Athanasiou. Johan Larsson would be my guy personally.

The KHL is the closest to the NHL in terms of level of play and Lehtonen is incredible there.

Also, Lehtonen is now playing and will come to the Leafs in mid season form

Athanasiou scored 30 in 2018-19. I think the speed of that 3rd line would be nuts.

My ideal choice is Soderberg - solid 2 way C, but idk if you could get him for this cheap. If you can, he's my #1 target on a one year deal

not saying he won't. Saying sometimes guys coming from the KHL just don't work out in the NHL, and I want the Leafs to be ready for both situations. If is pans out, great, more defensive depth. If not, you have still planned for it

Also that's not exactly a statement that says he won't be traded. He is currently a member of the Florida Panthers, what else would he say if they were considering a trade? We are looking to trade him? When has a GM ever come out and said that about a player who (a) hasn't acted out, (b) doesn't have a bad contract, (c) hasn't requested a trade, and (d) didn't play poorly?
