Trying to be creative

Team: 2020-21 New York Islanders
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 12, 2020
Published: Oct. 13, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Would LA do this? Bad contract for bad contract, both 2 years remaining. I had them retaining a bit of salary so we could re-sign Greene and Martin, so I threw in a third. Not sure if that's enough.

Let's pray Barzy & Pulock take a lower cap hit for a couple years.

The LW third line slot is up to JHS, Bellows, Wahlstrom, MDC, and Kouivula to duke out.

Boychuk for Carter doesn't really help us. It'd help us a lot more if it was Ladd, but LA wouldn't do that.

Sure it does. Saved us a million in cap space in this scenario.

Major credit here I like this a lot. Definitely creative. Think your contracts for Barzal and Pulock are dead on. Not sure which team takes Ladd but what you're sending with him makes sense. Admittedly I don't know anything about LA's needs but if they're okay with the swap it's great on our end and your logic is sound. Only change I would make is swapping Wahlstrom in for Bellows, and having Carter play LW so Wahlstrom stays comfortable on the right side.

We need a lot more than $1M to save.

Thanks and fair points!

Right, which is why I also moved out Ladd.

Did you look at the team as a whole? Or did you just look at the first trade then decide to comment?

Even looking at this team as a whole, we'd only have $11K in cap space. That means if someone is hurt and goes on IR, we can't call up anyone. We need at least $900K in cap space.

There have been teams with less.

There are three guys on the bench. If someone gets hurt, their cap hit does not count when placed on IR during the season.

I'd love to. From what I've read it seems the experts think it'll be a short term deal, so I just set it as such.
