Dont Expect More Changes

Created by: Masonh618
Team: 2020-21 New York Rangers
Initial Creation Date: Oct. 10, 2020
Published: Oct. 13, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I don't see the Rangers acquiring cornerstone pieces at this point, such as Dunn, Chychrun, etc. New York is just trying to protect salary cap for the 2021-22 season.

Some other details to get out of the way:
- K'Andre Miller and Morgan Barron are starting in Hartford before they make it to the big dance.
- Vitali Kravtsov will stay in the KHL until there is ample space for him.
- I wanted to give someone like Tarmo Reunanen the 3rd LD spot and make Jack Johnson a healthy scratch, but it sounds like the Rangers are planning on employing Johnson for the penalty kill all season. Perhaps Reunanen or maybe Libor Hajek can beat out Brendan Smith, but that's not something I would anticipate.

Sounds like Jeff Gorton agrees. I think we'll make one more minor move then use our chips in place to put together our team next year.

Why are we worried about what the cap will look like next season when we gain 12mil just from Smith and the buyouts dropping. With only Buch and Lindgren to sign?

i agree with you. i think these are the players that make the team as well. i wouldn't be shocked if hajek makes the top 6. he's better then a lot make him out to be. he can also play RD if fox or deangelo move to the LD. i think they signed rooney to play. they need him for the 2nd PK unit.

for the record and i know how the twitter world love Tarmo Reunanen but i seriously doubt he makes the team. i watch almost all the wolfpack games and follow the team. he didn't make the wolfpack last season thats why he was sent back to Finland. all i know about him is what i read online like many of the people here, but lets call a spade a spade. idk when was the last time someone was cut from an ahl team then went on to make a nhl team the following season. i hope he does make it and becomes an allstar. just doesn't seem realistic to me.

I was torn between Rooney and Blackwell. Guessing it'll just boil down to whoever has the better preseason. As for Reunanen, you're positive he failed in Hartford last year. I remember that happening to Yegor Rykov, but I had always thought he was just loaned to Finland for not reaching the NHL. I don't have super-hyped expectations for him, but to me he seemed to be the least raw LHD prospect behind Hajek.

Howden and Hajek will also be RFAs. Although they're probably only in the same price range as Gauthier, who knows how they progress next season.
Also, player bonuses are piling on.

reunanen went to the hartford camp. he never actually got cut but it was obvious he wasn't going to be a big part of the top 6. hartford had good LD when they started the season. they started with Lindgren, Geertsen (who is an established ahler) playing top 4 mins. he would have been competing against sean day, rykov and crawley for 3rd line mins. so he decided to go back to finland. after joey keane was traded hajek was the teams best dman. that's saying a lot because the team had good players. and a few ahler regulars. don't sleep on hajek.
