My only qualm is one bad Murray year and that pick is top 5 easily as the Ottawa D core is still quite sketchy and the young forwards aren't in prime yet

Top 10 protected so it becomes a 2022 1st rounder. And by then Sanderson and JBD will be in the nhl and Brannstrom will be improving and our D will look much better.

Chabot - Brannstrom
Sanderson - JBD
Wolanin - Zaitsev/Brown

I don't think the Sens are trading a 1st round pick anytime soon, protected or not. I wouldn't want them to unless it was can't miss. Is Laine can't miss? it's debatable. I don't think he's the next Ovechkin but he should be a perennial 30 goal guy. If this was a young stud Dman instead of a winger, then I might have a different tune.

It's also not going to be an easy contract negotiation and I wouldn't want that affecting the Tkachuk negotiation because it would. Ie, Maple Leafs and Tavaras. Laine will want more than 9mil. Personally Chabot should be the highest paid player on the team for the foreseeable future unless Tkachuk as a crazy good season.

But I don't even think the Jets want a package like this. One defensive prospect when they are looking for a top 4 D minimum. I just don't think the Sens are a good trading partner for what they will want. It's also very clear the Sens are going after character guys that have some kind of connection to the organization be that a former player for one of the coaches or friend of a current player.
