Kings politely decline. They're not trading away two quality prospects for a guy that could be a UFA in less than 2 years.

Are you assuming an extension isn’t a possibility? I’m sure something can be hashed out long term with him.

I'd do it. Is Kupari a better RW or C?

Not to sure. He’s listed as a C/RW/LW so assuming he is predominately a center.

I'm sure it's possible, but they're not going to take that chance. Even if they could, Buchnevich is almost 26 years old. All of the quality players on the Kings are between 18-21. There's no reason for them to trade two young players (both of whom have higher ceilings than Buchnevich) for a guy that will be 30 by the time the Kings are ready to compete again.

Understandable. If an extension came with the trade would you believe it’s still a no?

Still a no. For comparison's sake, this trade is equivalent to the Kings offering Iafallo for Vitaly Kravstov and Nils Lundqvist. Would the Rangers go for that?

I don’t think the 4 prospects are comparable to be honest but I get your point. Appreciate the feedback.

Their value is the same. I'm not suggesting they're similar style players.

Change the players going back to Akil Thomas and Sean Durzi and the Kings might consider it. A middle-six winger isn't worth two high-end prospects.

It most certainly is not. You’re being biased. Nils Lundkvist has broken several offensive records on a much better Lulea team and has higher stature. Drafted in the first round rather than a mid 2nd rounder of Grans and his less impressive Malmo Red Hawks team.

Grans was rated in the low to mid 20s by most prospect rankings and was considered to be a steal by LA in the EARLY second round (not mid) at 35. Swiping him at #35 is one of the major reasons that the Kings were given an A grade in the draft by multiple sources.

Lundqvist went at 28, higher than his prospect rankings, which were mostly in the mid-30s. They are very comparable players.

Scroll to the bottom of these links for the prospect rankings of each player. Grans was rated higher than Lundqvist at the time of their respective drafts.

I'd love to see a study on this but I feel like very few UFAs re-sign with their previous team, this year for instance it was incredibly seldom... weird year tho
