Replace Fabbri with Mantha or Bertuzzi and you have a deal!

Detroit passes. Gaudreau isn't the type of player Yzerman likes and a team rebuilding isn't going to give up a 1st.

Thing is that they brought in some pieces in the offseason, they might be tryin g to get out of that rebuild. Fabbri would be a great fit when trading Gaudreau. Fabbri is a LW, C which in my opinion is a good pick up when losing a major LW in the trade.

Edit: You are very right on the 1st round pick I should have put 2 3rds, and a 4th rounder

But most of the players brought in are place holders and on 1yr deals only 3 players signed 2yr deals. Yzerman did exactly what he said would icing a better team without giving up any futures to do so. Detroit will be better next season but will still finish in the bottom 3. Yzerman isn't going to give up that 1st for Gaudreau. Maybe they would trade Fabbri but I don't see it happening at least not until after the season starts. With Detroit recent play they have trouble getting free agents to come to Detroit. Signing Stecher and Griess was a big surprise. Resigning Fabbri and then turning right around and trading him is something you don't do if you want free agents to sign with your team. Fabbri was one of very very few bright spots for Detroit last season and he is slated to be Detroit's 2C at the start of the season. Right now Detroit has 1 good center and that is Larkin. I tend to ramble on a bit. But one player can not carry a team any more and giving up 2 good assets right now is just more than Detroit can afford at thus point.
