Why are we paying someone to take Rittich when he has 1 year left on his deal, thats really dumb. I doubt Granlund signs that sort of deal but if he was willing id be interested, If were signing another dman we should look into trading Kylington for someone who can effectively play in the bottom 6.

Its just to clear cap. Tre signed Markstrom as the number 1 with a big cap number, so they don't really need to spend 2.75 mill this year for a backup that most likely won't be returning unless he signs for cheap.

Tre picked up 2 extra 3rds in about 20 minutes by trading down twice, so acting like giving up a 3rd to clear cap space is the dumbest thing out there seems a little over the top IMO.

I disagree, 2.75 mil for a capable proven backup goalie who has shown a tendency to get hot and play like a number 1 is worth it, especially if he can take pressure off of Markstrom. One of the greatest mistakes the Flames made was burning out Kipper by not giving him an effective backup and playing him 70+ games a season. Even if he doesn't return its fine we have a solid tandem for atleast a year, Jimmy Howard terrifies me so I wouldn't bother with him. Granlund is definitely an interesting pickup at that cap hit but I would consider Josh Leivo because he can come cheap and play a super effective role in the bottom 6.

That is the Toronto mindset - overplay your number 1 cause you do not have a capable backup - we have a very capable backup in Rittich - I certainly would not pay to have someone take him

Its a little different grasping at 700k goalies that no one wants because you have no money and you're reaching at straws half way through a season.

Tre already signed Dominque as a depth piece, which ironically was Toronto's answer at one point for their backup issue. Which alludes to him possibly considering trading Ritter if he thinks it can help make the team better.

This is more about what Ritters future with Calgary is beyond next season. If they arent going to re sign him, and there's no trust to play him in the playoffs if Markstrom does get hurt, then whats the point of keeping him for another year, if you feel you can make your team better by trading him.
