Marc Bergevin had his best offseason yet for the Montreal Canadiens, while there are many positives to what MB has done this offseason, lets first address the negatives, Josh Anderson's contract is massive and overpaid for a guy coming off of a bad year. If Anderson bounces back to how he was the previous years, then its an okay contract for a unique player. It's a risk, and giving up Domi plus a 3rd doesn't seem like equal value either, but Domi was a problem for Montreal and didn't show up when they needed him most. Montreal had a good draft, getting a steal with Mysak, Guhle at 16 wasn't the best pick, but isn't a bad one either. Bringing in Allen has a backup for Price is brilliant, I like the Edmundson add to solidify our defense, and bring more grit and protection for Price. The Toffoli signing was a great move as well, a true top six goal scoring winger at a very reasonable AAV for the perfect term, Toffoli should fit in very well with Montreal, and the Petry and Gallagher extensions are well worth it as well, and creates less of a headache for next offseason. MB addressed every need for Montreal, resign core players, add a power forward, improve the defense, get a really good back up goalie, add a goal scorer and add Stanley Cup experience. MB needs to move out some money now, Kulak, Byron and Weal come to mind as cash that could go, but moving Byron's contract would be difficult. It was a great offseason for Montreal and should result in them being a much improved team.
