NYI and Flames Blockbuster

Created by: Ollie79
Team: 2016-17 Calgary Flames
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 16, 2016
Published: Nov. 16, 2016
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Both teams need a shot in the arm.
Trades
CGY
  1. Hamonic, Travis
  2. Strome, Ryan
Additional Details:
So as I see it we give Hamonic and Strome a new start. Hamonic had requested an out and with the recent slide by the Islanders he would probabyy welcome it again. Strome also need a new start. In Hamonic the Flames replace Hamilton with a little more of a vet presence and defence first mentality. We roll the dice with Strome and hope he does not bust.
NYI
  1. Ferland, Micheal
  2. Hamilton, Dougie
  3. Poirier, Emile
Additional Details:
The Islanders land Hamilton who is 3 years younger then Hamonic and could patrol the right side powerplay for the islanders for years to come. He is big and still has room to improve. Islanders also pick up Ferland who could be another clutterbuck. Not only can he score, he also can create space out on the ice with his big hits.

Yep, a 6th or 7th is a really game changer.shakes head

Nice deal Ollie. Fair exchange and maybe the change of venue for all players helps them also

I think the value is there maybe, but Hamonic won't want to leave. He only requested a trade to be closer to an ill family member in Canada, then when the problem passed (however it did) He immediately rescinded his trade request and made it clear he wanted to stay. I also know that Garth Snow was charging WAY too much for him before, and I don't see that changing. Hamonic is at a very reasonable contract for the Islanders while - with the way that Hamilton is playing - Hamilton is just not showing he's worth the money. I just think with Tavares' contract expiring soon that taking on more cap would not be the smartest thing and Garth would see this too.
Also, Strome spent time in the minors last year because he just wasn't living up to the standards that the Isles wanted, and he may have begun to rebound, but I feel a change of scenery would almost definitely set him back to the point you'd see him slotting in on the third and more likely fourth lines, in which case you have a player on the fourth line and possibly scratched for two years who's making 2.5 million dollars.
The value may be there, but I don't think the trade is really what either team is looking at, since Calgary only feels comfortable trading Hamilton because of the defensive pipeline they're investing in.
