My take on their offseason and what Id do to end it

Team: 2020-21 Florida Panthers
Initial Creation Date: Nov. 27, 2020
Published: Nov. 27, 2020
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
I like moving Matheson for Hornqvist. I think MM could really benefit a fresh start and Hornqvist could really help FLA, because he brings winning playoff experience.
I also like adding Nutivaara and Gudas. Add these two to Ekblad, Weegar and Staralman and you suddenly have 5 really solid PK options.
I think Wennberg will fit in well with them. I could see him being a 30 ish pts player in FLA.
Heck, I even like then adding Hinostroza and Verhaeghe for bottom six internal competition. CV could become a great 4th liner for the Panthers and Hinostroza could use a fresh start.

BUT, I do not like them not bringing back Haula, which is what I would still do. Haula can still score quite a bit.

With Haula being back, with Wennberg, Verhaeghe, Hinostroza and Hornqvist being added to the F group and with Gudas and Nutivaara being added to the D-core, the team should be more consistent, which would be a great thing.

Florida should offer sheet Cirelli or acquire a 2C.

Was literally about to say this. Florida seems like a reasonable option to offer sheet Cirelli while Tampa is super vulnerable.

If we did that, Lundell would be stuck on the 3rd line for years, I don't agree with that idea

That's something to consider. Will he play in the NHL in '21-22 or '22-23? If it's in two years, keep Cirelli for 2 weeks and move him for more than the offer sheet compensation that you will give up now since he would be better.

I like what Florida has done this off-season in terms of additions, but I still think they’re worse overall, unless Bob has another major bounce back. Yes their defense is better but losing 55+ goals from Hoffman/Dadonov and replacing them with Tippett/Hornqvist (not to mention Haula to Wennberg is a downgrade as well) vastly weakens their offense, which was their only redeeming factor last year. Depth additions are nice, but 4th liners aren’t very impactful in the grand scheme of things, especially when put up against losing two top 6 scoring wingers. Plus those are signings you SHOULD nail, cheap depth should be easy to find (unless you’re the Rags or Pens and thing Johnson and Ceci are good depth pieces lol). If the Rangers decide to move on from Strome I think he’s probably the perfect fit for the Panthers right now, he can play 2C playmaker between two of Hornqvist/Denisenko/Tippett/Connolly for now, and slide over to 2RW when Lundell is ready to step into that role.
