That's not how it works, their cap goes up by $4.875MM, and then if they go over, they use the LTIR which raises the cap limit, but they still have the original cap hit, so at best it's a zero sum gain.

Ottawa isn't paying any assets to acquire Pacioretty with 3 years left on his contract, and I doubt he wants to come to Ottawa.
