If mcdavid demanded a trade you wouldn’t get that. This isn’t 92 with Lindros. No team will completely gut itself for one player.
I heavily disagree with you on that. McDavid does what no other player can do. Mackinnon comes close in many aspects, but the league hasn't seen anyone like McDavid since Crosby.
Thats what makes even discussing a trade impossible. Especially amongst fans. The amount that it would cost for the Oilers to consider a trade would have to be so high that it would gut a team of their top 2-3 players, top prospects and 1st rounders. Which fans of opposing teams don't want to do.
I think a shockingly high number of teams would lineup to get McDavid at that price though. On ice product aside, bringing 97 to any of the large market teams (Ranger, Kings, Blackhawks, Leafs, Canadians, Boston etc.) would have such a high impact on marketing (ticket prices, merchandise etc) it would be worth it from a business perspective. Same goes for the small market teams struggling to keep/attract talent (Jacket, Coyotes, Panthers, Winnipeg, Sabres). There are certainly teams that are in a position where they are successful and thriving so making a trade wouldn't seem to make sense. Flyers are one of those teams. They have a great mix of impactful vets and young kids that it wouldn't really make sense to switch that core up.
But even IF McDavid demanded a trade (which isn't likely to happen, but bored fans love to debate) the price wouldn't fluctuate. He's a generational talent and if you don't want to pay the price, there are a dozen other teams that would bite the bullet to get 97 in their teams threads. Valuing a trade with McDavid isn't typical. Your not trading for a #1C. Its not as simple as looking at comparable trades for #1C, which I believe your proposal is closer to.
That above proposal is not even close. Like nothing to even build off of.
