The Pens trading Dumoulin and a 2nd(plus a prospect and NHL depth in Sceviour) for Mantha??

I think it’s a huge over-pay. Dumoulin is a top 4 LHD on a play-off team. On a good contract for a D-man.

And McCann for Raanta is also a downgrade for the Pens. I would rather stick with Jarry and DeSmith.

McCann is just 24 years old and a potential 20 goal scorer. A mid 6 forward. Good two-way player. And still a lot of potential there at just 24 years old. Already has back-to-back 35 point seasons.

An older defensemen we don't need, an older forward we don't want and spare parts for Mantha I think not. He hasn't started off right this year but he has serious potential. This is honestly a joke of a trade in my eyes. Red Wings are trying to get younger not older pieces. As @aedoran said this is a nightmare for the red wings trading away one of their core pieces of their rebuild. This makes zero sense sorry.

I understand though, being a rebuilding team. But Dumoulin and a 2nd round pick would be an over Pay for Mantha IMO. For a team that was competing for a play-off spot.

And Dumoulin is 29 years old. He still has 2-3 years of his prime. Most NHL players don’t decline till after 32 years old.

And yes, Mantha is off to a great start to the season!!

Ok you are right McCann for Raanta is pretty bad for the Pens and I agree Jarry is way better than Raanta. With the Detroit there is no way Detroit is better off after that trade and I think you will be hard pressed finding people to agree that Detroit is better off after that trade. Dumoulin is a solid defensive defenseman who eats a lot of minutes but every team has a player like that and when you look at the UFAs between the end of the season and the start of free agency there will be several players that can fill that role. Sceviour is bottom 6 guy a defensive specialist and almost 32 it look like Björkqvist will fill that role once Sceviour retires. I'm sorry but even with the 2nd isn't worth Mantha.
