Flyers trade 2021-22 projection

Created by: Richard88
Team: 2021-22 Colorado Avalanche
Initial Creation Date: Feb. 3, 2021
Published: Feb. 3, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This trade seems to work pretty well for both teams.

Avs get a 3C which fills a big need this season. Flyers get a young budding top 4 RHD which fills their biggest need going forward, along with a 3RW. Flyers get the two youngest players in the trade with more years of team control (Laughton and Braun are both on expiring deals) and thus Flyers add a pick.

This sets Flyers up well for Expansion, as Seattle would essentially have a choice between Compher or Gostisbehere. If Ghost gets taken (as in this roster projection) Flyers would have $2.5m+ to make an upgrade on Friedman (i.e around $3.3m to spend on another Dman if you include Friedman's caphit).

This is fine by me but you still run the risk of losing Laughton in the expansion draft.

Philly will be going for the cup, trading their only stay at home dman and last yrs playoff top scorer for youngster/future timmins doesn't help this playoffs, (not to mention Timmins probably falls below Zamula, Cam York on prospect depth chart).

Compher for Laughton is probably close to a wash at any point before season, but doubt a team that'll likely be fighting for the top seed in the east moves such key players at the deadline. PHI will be looking for pieces to win the cup, not futures and not moving such key figures, especially for downgrades and futures. If you said after the season, sure.

And Pateryn does nothing to move the needle, hes a scratch for you, but he's a lesser Braun, (who's rightfully scratched in COL).

Overall, this trade does nothing for Philly, but make them worse this year.
