Phillip Danault already turned a deal like that down, Reportedly he wants at least 6 years in the neighborhood of $5,750,000 or $6,000,000 per season. Noway he's signing that low and besides he wants top 6 minutes not bottom 6 minutes.

seriously doubt he'll get the contract he wants, many reasons, cap stable for years, doesn't have the season start he expected and stats are not there, montreal would be gentle to offer 5m but they'll do because he's a quebecer and really appreciate by the fans. I understand your point, but being realistic, you have the choice to be a solid 2C-3C in a contender team with 4.5m-5m or playing for the sens, wings, kings, etc for 6m-6.5m and you wont have this chance in a near future. Either he's a smart guy or he plays for money.

He turned down exactly 5X5 but he doesn’t have a good start at the season. Danault would be ready to take 5.5M on 6 years, but Bergevin doesn’t want to. My guess is Danault will take the offer Bergevin made him this past offseason.
