We're keeping in mind the expansion draft where the Leafs will certainly protect Rielly, and have to protect 2 of Brodie, Muzzin or Holl which means Dermott will be gone. He's not getting consistent ice time with the Leafs, and it's been rumoured the Leafs want to get another top 6 option on offense (I hope to god the guy they were talking about isn't Galchenyuk). Not a lot of teams rn with top 6 guys on still affordable deals with more than 1 year of team control like Rakell who is a bonafide top 6, even 1st line winger. I like Dermott but unfortunately, they have to trade him before they lose him to Seattle for nothing. Also Kerfoot is as good as gone next year if Toronto brings Freddy back, when you say "more silly extension talk" and "they aren't happening, could you be a bit more specific? I haven't done anything outrageous, I gave Andersen market value considering Markstrom got 6x6 after a much better season that Freddy is having rn, I gave Hyman a hometown discount that he's basically said he'd be willing to take, and a bunch of random depth guys to fill in the bottom 6. Kerfoot isn't getting traded because I want him gone, he's getting traded because how else are you going to bring back Hyman, Freddy, and half your bottom 6 without sacrificing someone? I agree the Leafs are weak at center, but what do the Leafs do instead? Trade Nylander? Trade Marner? The reality is say what you want about Freddy but the Leafs desperately need him back in net for next year. Campbell is great but he is a Jake Allen type, he is not a workhorse starter like Freddy is. Scott, Woll and Ahktyamov are simply not close to the NHL at this point. Hyman maybe you say is expendable and you keep Kerfoot, but I have yet to meet a single Leafs fan who'd rather have Kerfoot at 3.5 than Hyman on a hometown discount.
