I dont like Nylander either, Rielly scratched for not passing to matthews . Andersen scratched for giving up soft goals and Kerfoot just flat out sucks

Hahah. I don’t mind Nylander on other teams, but not on Edmonton. You can tell he has a huge attitude, and he always gets stripped from the puck, because he doesn’t pass unless he absolutely has too.

Rielly had no reason to pass to Matthews. Just because Matthews is the main goal scorer, doesn't mean that everyone has to pass to him all the time and he has to be the only one scoring. Forget that Rielly scored 20 goals as a d-man 2 seasons ago? If you break the play down properly, Rielly made the right decision to shoot and it was actually more Matthews fault for that winner by Dadonov.


Proper breakdown:
Marner walked Ottawa's defence like they were a peewee team. He pulled Hogberg out of position but didn't have any angle to shoot, so he passed back to the closest and best option to Rielly in the slot. When Reilly gets the puck, Hogberg was laying down on the ice and Dadonov was in the crease acting like a goalie. Rielly shoots, Dadonov blocks it. Paul picks the puck up and Marner dives to try to get his stick on Paul but Paul blows him away laterally. Rielly chases Paul because that's his man to cover. Then with Marner laying on the ice Dadonov blows by him. Paul drops the puck to Chabot who should be covered by Matthews who didn't move from where he was waiting for the one timer. Chabot quickly moves it to Dadonov who is miles ahead of Marner at this time and Dadonov has a clear breakaway. Rielly is gassed at the end of his shift but still manages to catch Dadonov to get a stick on him and Dadonv scored.

So what went wrong? Rielly's shot on on open net that had a player blocking it, not a goalie. That player blocked the shot. Great on Dadonov. Marner fell to the ice on the back check and Matthews didn't move from where he wanted the shot. He had likely the most amount of energy and didn't even hustle on the back check. Rielly still got back and Andersen went down WAY too early and Dadonv sees that and scores. Any player in the world would have shot that puck when Rielly did. that's not a pass situation when the goalie is down and out like that. Doesn't matter if it's Matthews on the other side or Travis Boyd. That's Rielly's shot all day. It got blocked. But there was no hustle from Marner or more in particular Matthews on that play. They're more to blame than Rielly.

If you were in Rielly's skates you would have shot that too. Don't deny it. Don't hate on Rielly for making the right play. Jesus it's hockey. It happens.
