Hockey Trades

Description
Tampa Bay does this trade for two reasons. Firstly, they still have time to salvage the season, but to do so, they will need to be much better defensively. Giordano helps with this. Secondly, they will be tight on money this offseaason if they have to resign Palat. Calgary helps them in this regard.

Similarly to Tampa, Washington also does this trade for two reasons. Firstly, they are scoring much less than they were last season. Brouwer might just be what they need to step it up a little and help the scoring. Secondly, they are willing to give up Alzner because they might not have the money to resign him in the offseason.

Obviously these are just attempts at trades; I realize the value isn't quite there. Something similar could help both sides though.

Teams on a Cup run (Washington) aren't worried about not having enough money next season. So if Alzner helps than win this season, more than Brouwer, they keep Alzner. Same logic with the Tampa trade.

I like this trade for TB but not sure about the value for CGY. Except Palat, theyre getting underperforming, overpaid defensemen. They lose their best D-men and a lot of scoring depth and get basically nothing back for it. If your idea was planning for a rebuild then youre missing some prospects/draft picks in there.
