If I’m the Kraken I probably do that and probably make him the captain or see if you can flip him for some more assets while retaining.

Also don’t see the cap going up next year by a million in a shortened basically non attendance year, where the cap is tied to the league generating $3.3B in revenue.

Using the buyout calculator on this site Holtby's buyout cap would be 1.9 mil for the 2022-2023 season...

1. cap will most likely stay the same
2. gonna take way more than that to trade Johnson's contract
3. pretty sure the Canucks are gonna expose holtby as their goalie in the ED so they wouldn't trade him
