    Who was protected over Granny?

I wouldn't trade Zucker/Kane 1 for 1 swap right now. $3.25m extra cap hit, Kane's health, Kane's other "issues", make Kane a bad 1 yr investment.

I added Zucker more for cap purposes.
The main deal would be Dumba for Kane.
They seem like similar players just at different positions: both have great speed, big shots, both like to hit a lot, but both seem to be bad decision makers at times. Both seem to give high effort on the ice at all times as well.

Also with the 4-4-1 I figured Minnesota would protect Parise-Koivu-Coyle-Neiderreiter Suter-Brodin-Spurgeon-Dumba.

You traded Dumba away, 4-4-1 really doesn't make sense then. Dumba>Zucker>Kane value wise (imo). I like Kane's game a lot, but not the baggage.

I'm with Wabit - I wouldn't trade Zucker for Kane straight up (I'd think about it though).

Dumba and Kane do have similar styles...but Dumba HAS character...Kane IS a character. No chance you trade a great kid with the ability to become a great player for a sketchy kid who is what he is as a player. Kane has topped out as a good...not great player.
