Why not just keep Thornton and Spezza? They've proved they are still quailtity nhl players, and they come at the league minimum, where as the other guys likely wouldn't. I would want them, but Thornton and Spezza will just be resigned.

Also at this point Alex Kerfoot is going to Seattle I think, there are many other defenseman, Seattle will probably take a guy who can be a top 6 centre for them.

I think Thorton will probably retire. Spezza might resign.

He'll be 36 at start of next season, and if he played 82 games this season, he's on pace for 35 points. That's not 4.5 million material, he'd be ripping off the Ducks.

If thornton retires, which I don't think he will based off his season unless the leafs win the cup, then Staal would be a great pickup at league min or even Simmonds money. Getzlaf on the other hand probably isn't taking a toronto discount.
