I've seen plenty of Sharks fans buying him out in AGMs, is it an actual possibility? If so, I'd be tempted to offer him a cheap one-year deal.

On a team with Smith and Butcher ahead of him?

    Butcher is likely traded regardless.

Murray and Kulikov are UFAs, Severson would be left as only d-man to protect.
And their LHD prospect pipeline is stocked.
And they need to meet min game requirements so Bastian stays to be one of those.

    Cayden Primeau available?

He can play on the right side too, but whatever.

And no, probably not. Goalie prospects are rarely traded anyways.

He hasn't said he wanted out, and Mete's potential outweighs Bastian's.

Why hasn't he lived up to that potential in Montreal?

He could have but the team went full circle and opted for a "the bigger the better" mentality.

I've seen a lot of Habs fans wanting Butcher for Chariot. Butcher is just a more developed version of Mete so Im confused by this.

Mete for Chiarot could work, as they have roughly the same cap hit. Mete isn't playing right now, so it doesn't make sense to trade him for Butcher who will either sit or make Kulak sit.

Even then I wouldn't do it. Vlasic has been horrible for the last two years and the term would scare me more than the cap hit.

Neither, Vlasic's current contract, even half-retained and with a great young asset, is untradeable imo.
