Looking at Next Year

Created by: A_K
Team: 2021-22 St. Louis Blues
Initial Creation Date: Mar. 12, 2021
Published: Mar. 12, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
This is what I'd like to see, not necessarily how the team will approach things...

Protection List:
Tarasenko, ROR, Schenn, Schwartz, Thomas, Kyrou, Sundqvist
Parayko, Krug, Dunn
Binnington

Perron getting selected in 2 expansions would be pretty funny. He is doing great this season but the way I see it, his money is better spent on guys like Dunn/Thomas/Kyrou, and his role is easily filled by Kyrou. Losing Sundqvist is the other option, but I think Perron is easier to replace and at age 33 he is going to hit the wall soon. Seattle might take him just to rent him to a contender for the free picks.

I'd leave Faulk exposed - I don't think the smart people in Seattle's FO will give him half a look even though he is playing really well this season. It's not a flippable contract and they can't expect him to play up to that deal long-term.

I think Kostin will have a good chance to make the team and that could mean one of Sanford or Blais is moved.

Thoughts? Obviously all of the cap hurdles for next year depend on the expansion. And there is good reason to think the Blues are going to ship off Dunn in the offseason rather than sign him long-term like I did here.

I'd try to sell Perron at the very least. His production over the last two years is surely worth something.

That's definitely a good option. Then you'd protect Sundqvist and you lose Sanford/Blais/Barbashev and move on with the cap space (4 + 1.5ish) AND the assets from a Perron trade. I just don't know how realistic trades are before the expansion draft... anyone trading for him is taking an expansion slot away. If you can find a partner, 100%.

I'm thinking about my Habs, so far if they don't re-sign any of their UFAs, they likely protect guys like Evans and Lehkonen. I hope they'd take a look at Perron.

IMO Perron is in STL to stay, guys like him that got the blue note tattooted on his chest is important. He's not captain material but a huge leader. I think he gonna finnish his career in St Louis and start a podcast in Montreal after lol

Sanford is the guy that Seattle's gonna pick IMO, or Sunny

Yep could be a good stop-gap RW before Caufield comes in, rather than tying up more long-term money in a guy like Tatar...

I wouldn't count on the Blues moving Perron though, he's scoring a ton these days. I just really think giving his spot to Kyrou is a better look, and using that money on Dunn or Schwartz is a better investment. The Blues don't seem to be on the same page as me though, based on their moves in the last 2 years :/

Seattle can select and sign Schwartz though. I'd lose DP 100x before I lose Schwartz.

Could also be Dunn. We've seen how little the organization thinks of him: giving his money to Scandella, his spot to Krug, healthy scratch, putting him on the trade block, etc.

Pretty sure schwartz is not obligated to sign with seattle if selected, army can talk to jaden and get him to buy in to this being the best way to keep the team together
