Friedman said that Toronto doesn’t have the assets to trade for Rakell. This doesn’t get him and Ducks aren’t trading McLaughlin when he’s tearing it up in NCAA.

Friedman did say that. However, he did mention the fact the Ducks are way overvaluing Rakell. No way he gets 2 firsts plus a prospect. And McLaughlin was a placeholder for another lower Ducks prospect, someone who I would't get berated for putting in. But the NCAA is not the AHL either mind you.

We’re not expecting 2 first but we need a top prospect in return. We’re not looking lower prospects and bottom 6 forwards.

Sure. I'd like to point out Abramov is our 5th prospect, and the other 4 were high level picks. Plus Engvall is still young and can be developed some more, the Ducks have some time before they are bonafide competitors again to coach and develop from their end. I'd argue the Leafs have the assets, but whether they want to meet ANA's price is a different story entirely.

Why would Vancouver want 2 D-list prospects and a 5th for one of their better defensemen who wants to come back next season
