Why Tampa is a cap team that is going to struggle to sign all its RFAs as it is (Drouin being one of them). This gives them two guys that could fight for a roster spot next season (Valiev and Lindberg) and one that can easily fill in a middle 6 role on the team (Soshnikov). And none of these players need to be protected whereas Drouin does so Tampa can use that spot to protect Namestnikov as well. It's a numbers game that the leafs can use to their advantage and Tampa might just have to bite the bullet to save as many as possible and get as much back as they can for the rest.

Snow wouldn't do Hamonic for Hall, No way does Snow deal Hamonic for any package including JVR. Don't see it happening.

If the Islanders are smart they part ways with Snow. He's run the organization into the ground. And he may not have traded for Hall but the expansion draft changes things and the closers you get to it the more real it becomes and the fact is they need to do something or they lose some good players.

I think the Expansion Draft and its rules will supersede alot what has happened before. There will be alot of better to get something rather than lose a player
        for nothing!

That's what I'm saying. As of right now Pluck goes unprotected and he's far too good a prospect to lose for nothing and Islanders need major help up front and Hamonic is the price they would need to pay.

Hamonic and Pulock are way too much for Isles to give up for that package. Maybe just Hamonic. But I don't think JVR is all that appealing NYIs. Maybe a couple more prospects instead. Vatanan is starting NHL Dman with a fair contract and long term. One year of Bozak (and the Ducks don't really need centres) and Leivo who doesn't see the ice in Toronto is a poor deal for the Ducks. Leafs can/would offer more as would many other teams.
And Drouin has cache as a goal scorer (right or wrong) where if he is traded by Tampa they should get better return from someone.
Look at that cap. Getting close to the max and Nylander is becomes due and two years Marner and Matthews.

I disagree, the Islanders are in desperate need of someone to play with Tavares or he probably walks and cripples the franchise. JVR could definitely fill that role. On top of that the expansion draft is looming and Jeremy Bracco would be an excellent addition to the team in a couple years and being a home town boy is a good story to sell to fans.

The Vatanen deal also comes back to the expansion draft. They are going to lose him in the draft if they don't deal him. I guess they probably need to give more; SJS 2nd?

As for Drouin I refer you to my previous post. He may have cache but it comes down to money and and how much Tampa can protect in the expansion draft. And Tampa is getting a Middle 6 forward and 2 second rounders that are almost NHL ready and may be by the start of next season, plus none of these 3 players need to be protected.

The cap is in great shape? If you look at the contracts Lupul and Horton are still on the books and neither need to be there the next year. And when Matthews and MARNER are due their raises Gardiner comes off the books go will Polak, Hunwick, Komarov, Winnik, plus Martin should be easily moved.
