Description

I'm not advocating for this approach. I wanted to look at a scenario in which ownership does not okay any buy outs, assets are not attached to bad contracts to allow them to be moved, and we receive no cap relief through the Expansion Draft. Petterson and Hughes' caphits may be low. Would be awesome to upgrade at 3C or to find longer term solutions on D as opposed to Edler and Harmonic. Could also use another scoring winger. Depth signings like Chatfield and Vesey are obviously interchangeable with other cheap depth. Very little flexibility and upside without somehow clearing space, but at least this roster wouldn't muck up the cap for the following year when the Luongo buyout, Roussel, Eriksson, and Beagle are all off the cap.

I think Pettersson will get a lower amount and Hughes will get more. I know you guys are realy in love with Pettersson and for a good reason!! But you cannot pay him more than 8m... He never had more than 1 pts/per game... I think he'll get something similar as Barzal

I listen to a fair amount of Vancouver sports radio. Most of the hosts seem to think Hughes and Pettersson will both sign bridge deals, with Hughes signing for 6-6.5 million, and Pettersson between 7-7.5.

I personally think Pettersson will get the same as Brazel at 7. I don't know that the market has quite been set for a player like Hughes yet, so it will be interesting to see what he signs for.

I agree that there are not a lot of clear precedents for a Hughes contract. Would love to lock Petterson up for cheaper. Could be a silver lining of Petterson's injury.
