Why would the sabres do that? How many teams want to acquire hall for the playoffs. Not taking james neal in a deal.

Rumor is Hall may only get a 2nd. Oilers give Buffalo the 1st to take Neal.

No shot Yamamoto signs a 3 by 3. Worth way more on a three year term.

      I totally disagree, he doesn't warrant $3 million/year yet. I see 2 x $1.8 million or so, but no more than $2.2 million x 2.

I don't think so. He's not as important to the team as Bear was last year, and Bear got $2M x 2. That Yamamoto contract is similar to his pre-COVID comps like Kapanen, Lindblom and Kase.

This lines up with what I was thinking. Bear got $2M x 2 so that's probably the ceiling for Yamamoto, unless he blows the doors off in the last 20 games. The AAV should go up on a 3-year deal though, so maybe $2.5 - 2.75M is the right range on a 3-year?

Edit: Kase got 3.27% of cap on his 3-year bridge, which would be $2.66M in today's dollars. Sound about right?

How on earth did you screw up the expansion list so badly that you lost Ethan Bear?!

But why give him away for free? Especially to a division rival. That makes no sense at all.

I guess you don't pay attention to the Oilers then? Any half-wit who paid a modicum of notice would know Bear has value.

Any advanced stats nerd would I don't care what his GF % is, 3 assists in 21 games doesn't convince me of anything. I've watched almost every game and all I see is a 3rd pairing guy out there what are you seeing?

You don't care about his GF% but just want to look at points? How do you think games are won and lost? You can scored 6 goals per game, but if you're allowing 7 or 8 then you're going to end up 0-82. Goal differential is probably the single most important number to pay attention to, although when sample sizes are small you could look at things like CF% and DFF% (similar to xGF%) to give a wider perspective. How a player performs vs Elite competition is telling. Bear vs Barrie is a good illustration of this.

Looking at puckiq.com you'll see that Barrie gets sheltered as much as possible while Bear plays the 2nd toughest minutes of all defenders. Their results vs Elites speak for themselves:

      Bear: +4.60 CF%rel, +8.40 DFF%rel, 45.6 OZS%
      Barrie: -3.40 CF%rel, -9.00 DFF%rel, 59.1 OZS%

Name a game where we scored 6 and allowed 7? And Barrie is the only defenseman in 6 years to have this chemistry with the big 2. Klefbom couldn't hardly hit 30 points in 80 games behind these guys, yet Barrie has done it in 35. Bear has played big minutes behind then too, but where is the ACTUAL PRODUCTION? He can get carried around by those on the ice with him, but he lacks actual contribution.

Barrie/Nurse also play tougher matchups than Russell/Bear

This is just wrong. You need to look at the facts, Connor and Leon don't need Barrie to produce.

      97+29 with 22: 75.00 GF% [7.01 GF/60 - 2.34 GA/60]
      97+29 w/o 22: 87.50 GF% [7.36 GF/60 - 1.05 GA/60]

So they're actually BETTER without Barrie. They score more and allow less.

Don't need him, but why does he have 30 points and Bear has 3? That is my question
