Description

There is no getting around the fact that Winnipeg needs a solid #1. Raanta has been solid in NY for this year and in past years. Winnipeg can win next year, and a solid goalie will get them far. NY needs a back up to The King and Hellebuyck can play about 20 solid games a year. Morrissey gives the Rangers a solid d-man similar to Clendening but with more room to grow.
Not sure if Clendening is the right value but a pick can always be substituted for him.
With Winnipeg deep with d-men they can afford to lose one for a goalie.

I feel like Winnipeg is getting robbed and murdered in this trade. Hellebuyck is a young goalie, and in a few years could be really good (but right now he's still learning). Morrissey is a first round pick who's young but has grown into a top pairing role with Byfuglien, and has done well in that spot. Clendening isn't getting the respect he deserves in New York in my opinion but he is no Josh Morrissey by any means. Raanta looks good, but I'm not 100% convinced he's full time starter material. Maybe a 1B goalie but clear cut #1 seems like a stretch for now.

dumbest trade I've seen in a while from the Jets perspective. That trade should be for Lunqvist not Raanta and even then still might be too much! You're giving a top pairing Defenceman and a potential #1Goalie (still unproven) for a back up and a third pairing d? Just doesn't make sense

And Raanta only has one full year till he's a UFA, so it's not a great deal for Jets. The Rangers would likely lose Hellbuyck to Vegas, and then they have to start looking again for a goalie.
