Description
Idk man it’s not looking good

I really hope Caufield comes up and scores at least semi-consistently

I really hope Gustafsson helps the d-men take the puck out of our zone more effectively, and also bolsters the power play.

I really hope if Caufield helps the scoring and the defence figure out how to not be dead tired at the end of everyone of their shifts to where they try to clear the puck and make a bad giveaway like 89% of the goals against the Habs have had.

It’s a rough time. Looking like drowning in mediocrity again. Hope Geoff Molson displays some urgency to contend for the cup by using the offseason to improve the team. Not add one scoring winger, trade for another, add a backup, add some d-men, but not upgrade the clearly lack lustre “first line” the team has.

I would keep Lekhonen on the lineup, he is so good on the pk and brings a lot of energy on that 4th line that lacks a lot of speed with Staal and Perry. However, at this point, we have no choice but to bring Caufield on the roster and give him a try.

After 5 years of pure mediocrity, wouldn’t it be nice to have 4 lines that can contribute even remotely offensively?

I swear to God I’ve been hearing “no we can’t trade him he’s a solid defensive forward, good on the Pk, he’s fast.... etc. But the team still struggles to score. Ottawa scores at a higher rate. Can’t you see the distinct MILES in between the Habs and the rest of the cup contenders?

After 11 years of no consistent elite/threatening offensive forward, I’m sick of caring about guys who do the little things right and are useless in contributing to the big things.

I agree with you, but at the same time we need guys like that, maybe 1 or 2 per team, not 5 like it was the case with the other teams that we had in the past.

I believe that if we have 3 good lines that could score on a regular basis and a fourth line that brings pressure energy and heart to this team, we would be in a good place. The lack of offensive consistency comes from the fact that 2 out of our 3 centers are under 22 years old and need developpement, and from the fact that some of our wingers are soo unconsistent(Drouin,Tatar,Armia)

The streaky consistency of Drouin, Tatar, and Danault is not helping anyone. I believe Suzuki and KK still can be trustworthy solid centremen, and it’s not their fault by any means. This offseason (depending on result) better be true reach into cup contention.

Lehkonen and Byron are the two players giving out the most to the team these days, you don't push them out.
Caufield won't change a thing because there's a difference between a team that can't score and a team that just doesn't play with energy. Montreal has guys who can put it in the net on every line this year but there's just something in their head (Or the locker room) preventing an actual team to show up every night.

Interesting take! I disagree. I really do not think effort is the issue. I think, to your point, the locker room might not have developed a working game plan that the players are on the same page with. You can see Drouin and Danault displaying great effort on the boards, with the puck entering the zone, there’s just a clear drop off of talent where Danault gets caught by being out skated by the defender, or Drouin over stick handles and makes a bad pass.

I just believe what WE (as in most hockey fans) have a different idea of what a player looks like when they ‘work hard’.
