Description
Living with Drouin, letting Tatar walk, retaining Danault, Armia, Merrill, and Allen is drafted by Seattle.

Where does Montreal go from here? I quite like Lehkonen and Armia both, but is it better to let them go, send Drouin to Robidas island, or anywhere, and try to chase RFA/UFAs? 11.4M cap space in this scenario.

You’d save some cap space by sending down McNiven. Also I’d say Lehkonen and Poehling would probably cost a little less, and KK would cost a little more.

    Otherwise, I really like this.

Lehkonen, being an RFA is due a 20% raise, I think? Puts him at 2,880,000 at least. McNiven and Poehling fall in the same boat, but maybe for younger guys this doesn't come into play- I'm not 100% sure. Could send McNiven down but in all likelihood we will be using a 3rd keeper at some point!

If everyone performed well it could be a competitive roster, would still not be a favourite, though.

Lehkonen’s qualifying offer is 1 year at $2.2 million. I think that’s probably around what he’ll sign for.

Poehling’s QO is $874,125, however that could likely be negotiated lower, since he would have a very low AHL salary.

McNiven would probably be needed at some point yes, but it’ll be only for a few days likely, so he can be called up when he’s needed, that way his entire salary doesn’t count against the cap.
