Description
Settling with Laine somewhere above the 5th compensation bracket, as I don't believe any team would offer him enough to cost them 2 first round picks.

Also overpaying RNH, otherwise I think it would be hard to lure him away from Oilers... Still would be, But RNH is the only thing even close to a 1C available in free agency, next best in Danault? Assuming CBJ won't want to buy into some old C like Krejci, and if CBJ doesn't add something at C, they might as well let Laine go for the compensation package.

Nuge is my favourite player in the whole NHL, but he isn't worth anywhere near 9 mil.

Laine isn't worth that much either, in my opinion, but that is the point; its the only way CBJ could pry him away from Oilers... and they need a C for Laine, otherwise its back to the drawing board.

That's overpaying him ~1.5M what Oilers should really invest in him, if they want to keep Barrie too.

Vast overpayment for both Laine and Nugent-Hopkins. Laine is worth no more then $7.5 million to $8.0 million per season long term. And Nugent-Hopkins between $6.5 million to $7.0 million per season long term.

I tend to agree, my first thought of Laine trade to CBJ was that they wanted the 1,2,3 compensation package. Kekkalainen says he wants to build around him though, and overpaying RNH is likely the only way to get him, and even though he isn't exactly a top C, he's the best one potentially available as a free agent this year.

Philly was so volatile... he's at almost half a point per game even this season. 12 / 28 .... other Dmen putting up those figures will get more than 4M I bet.

If gms values him at that then why was he given away for nothing at half retained?

Also, overall he is an extremely high net negative. Worse defensive defensman and an absolute turnover machine. Secondary assists don't make him worth 4m

its for sure an overpayment, but youd need some kind of offensive dman in there, and thats the money i had left over. Barrie would be great, but its already low chance of landing RNH without chasing him too, and if you don't get that then ur cooked anyway.

I revised the money down. I guess Del Zotto coming back would be an option too though, or maybe Mike Rielly, but I give him about as much credit as you guys do Gustafsson

Did Werenski and Jones die? Werenski led the league in goals for Dmen just last year and both are easily better offensively than Gus. Also, Mike Rielly has been really good this year

No, but one pair isn't enough in my eyes, especially when they've had one go down two seasons in a row. Fair enough you can run PP with 4 forwards ... I feel a need for 3 and 3 instead of 2 puck movers and 4 stay at home guys.
