Realistic 2021-22 and room for improvement

Created by: King_in_the_north
Team: 2021-22 Edmonton Oilers
Initial Creation Date: May 3, 2021
Published: May 3, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Smart cap handling with solid addition without breaking the bank, also leaving room for future RFA signing in 2023 and so on. Oilers will have Neal, Lucic and Sekara off the books so good time to give raise to Yamamoto, Bouchard and Bear (hopefully the cap will increase too in 2 yrs time). Offer RNH and Hyman 4 yrs so the contract run parallel to Draisaitl and time to decide who is worth what.

Nice to see more sensible cap management

Why Lagesson jettison? (With CJ exposed especially)

Very small chance the 5th ends up as good as him

Hyman is becoming the Kunitz of this generation

Perpetually beside elites but a good player all told

Nugent-Hopkins isn't taking the same AAV without longer than 4 years committed to him. He'll likely be one of the top free agents and will get more than that.

If Hyman signs that deal, it's in Toronto. He's not leaving. Team loves him. Hyman loves the team. They have the room for him. He's not moving anywhere.

Ullmark likely gets longer term, and it's not high enough AAV for him if he's moving to Canada due to the slightly higher tax rate.

& that's a massive overpay for Tyson Barrie. He's really not that good. He's helped out by playing top PP minutes with McDavid and Draisaitl. He's a defensive liability and makes poor shot decisions in the offensive zone. He's not worth anything over $4M and teams are gonna overpay cause they're blindsided by point totals

You are right about 5th round not enough, but this is the reality in flat cap era, plus we have plenty of defencemen on roster and I rather go with some veterans than all freshmen, we are going to lose hi for nothing otherwise

All valid points, I don't mind 6x5 or 5.5x8 for RNH, he is good player but not great, he was signed in era when oilers were throwing money, looks at what Eberle got in NYI, also HAll also find the team, so its safe bet RNH take a oay cut of bet on himself for 203 yr deal with years till salary cap is extended again

As for Goalie, I think this eyar is crucial for Oilers, they are becoming real contenders now and I hope some goalie realizes this and come over to win a ring rather than look for jus the money. but I expect the Mike Smith to stay and Koskinen will be dealt with retained salary or something
