So..... the Habs keep banging their collective heads against the wall and put the same team out there next year and expect a different result. Great plan you'd fit in with Bergevin on the unemployment line.

Both Tatar and Danault walk into free agency with those weak offers

So you think Tatar and Danault have played well enough to demand more, not sure about that. If they don't take the deal you let them walk so as to not ice the same team again next season or trade thier rights for a couple 2nd's but don't over pay. Unless Weber retires and you can use that cap money, 10 mill+ for those 2 doesn't seem worth it IMO.

Fans always wrongfully evaluate a player's worth by their production in the contract's last year (hell, even the last game!). Teams looks at their whole career.

It's a what have you done for me lately type thing. But I'm of the opinion that they aren't going to get that much better so why offer them more! If 5mill. over 5 seasons was turned down, that's their loss.
Teams can't be too attached to players other than franchise players. Price was that player but even his play has declined. The Habs tend to settle for mediocrity so being just competitive every second game is nothing to write home about.

It's your opinion. They are still worth 5.5M+ on the market. Danault is entering his prime and Tatar was the team best scorer last year with 61 points in 68 games.

Well I guess that's your opinion as well. Seems to me that most if not all the top cup contenders won't pay that much for 2nd/3rd line players.
Can't afford to keep them both and sign the younger guys, If they are so valuable then get something for them or just one instead of losing them for nothing. The Habs need 1st line LW, C and more RD, maybe trading them can help get what they need.
