BEFORE YOU GUYS FLIP BECAUSE THE VALUE ISN'T FAIR, THESE ARE IDEAS AS TO WHAT THE CANUCKS SHOULD LOOK FOR

The Canucks obviously need a tear it down rebuild, but they can make the rebuild go a lot faster than expected, if they really want to. They already have a good chunk of the pieces in place, but they still don't have the depth they'll need.

It appears they have their goalie of the future with Demko, Horvat could keep developing into a great second line center, Virtanen can be a top end power forward, Juolevi is going to quarterback the power play for a long time, and Boeser can be a top line right wing. It seems they have most of their future core in place, maybe get another winger and defenseman through the draft.

But the big reason why the rebuild won't take nearly as long is if they trade their players for prospects, not just draft picks. If they get more seasoned players, they'll be able to make an impact faster than they would by building through the draft. Especially with the last two draft classes looking like they're both stacked with talent, so acquiring prospects from those two drafts would be extremely beneficial to them. While they won't have an elite talent, they should still be able to find a very consistent group of guys that can provide almost the same scoring among the top 2 or 3 lines. But that doesn't mean that they shouldn't be acquiring draft picks, because in a salary cap era, it's so important to keep young guys coming into the lineup that can make an impact.

The Sedin's get traded at the 2018 deadline. The name recognition will most likely add to their value a little bit, plus it provides some great leadership to the group. Even if they decline, they'll still fetch a pretty significant return on the trade market. Edler and Sbisa both have difficult contracts to move, but they should be able to find a taker by retaining some salary. Both of them get traded at the draft.

You can only retain 15 percent of the cap in salaries and you're 2 million dollars over that limit

The logic is there but the math isn't. I'm down for these deals in essence

Any trades involving Hansen or Edler will not require salary retention, Hansen's deal is one of the most cap friendly deals in league. Horvat will also not sign for 3 years at 3 million, more around 7 years at 4.5-5.5 I'm guessing 4.75, would love to see the Sedins move on for some nice pieces though.
