Star power cup run

Created by: knuxles
Team: 2021-22 Montreal Canadiens
Initial Creation Date: May 24, 2021
Published: May 24, 2021
Salary Cap Mode: Basic
Description
Alex Ovechkin just said that if he does not resign with the caps, the only other NHL team he'd want to play for is the Habs. He has always loved their culture and fanbase, in fact, in 2015 he said he'd love playing in Montreal. He is 35 years old and may not be resigned because let's be honest; the caps need a rebuild. Will Ovi be joining the habs next year? Maybe!
Eichel is also an option for a long-term star player. We have one of the best prospect pools in the league and have plenty of enough assets to give away for Eichel.
Eichel and Ovi on the same team would be insane.

I could be way off base (don’t follow the Habs or Sabres too closely), but I’d be shocked if an Eichel deal got done without Suzuki or Caufield being in the trade.

You are 100% correct. Eichel's value may be negatively affected by the potential surgery, but at least one of Suzuki or Caufield needs to be in that trade.

Because people are talking about Eichel's trade value going down because of injury, Buffalo has no choice but to listen and accept a lower return. Kk and Peohling still have a lot of potential and Buffalo clearly wants young players who can play in their lineup. Plus Jordan Harris is going to be a really good D once he's done with college. I believe this will be enough, I might be wrong but Buffalo cant expect Caufield or Suzuki for Eichel if his injury might drastically affect his gameplay.

The injury concern is overblown. It's a common injury which usually (the vast majority of the time) responds to rehab and conservative care with a low recurrence risk. Unless - and here's the risk - Eichel mails in his treatment and decides to go for the new high risk surgery (for all practical purposes untested on high-contact pro athletes).

So, that said, the deal looks like what I expect the Sabres to get (except they will insist on the 2021 1st instead of one of the later ones). The real risk is having to deal with Eichel and his willingness to risk his own career. Same effect on value so you're in the ballpark. Only issue is in division. Deal around Turcotte wins if he's on the table.

Yeah...except regardless of injury, there's still a ton of teams that would likely be in on him, which would continue to drive the price. I mean, as bad as an off of Chytil/Schneider/depth piece and a couple of picks would be from the Rangers, it's still better than this.

I could absolutely see Buffalo taking a bad contract back to encourage other suitors. We're all here saying "Minny, NYR, MTL or LA", when there's a ton of teams out there that can offer up great packages, as long as they shed a contract.

And they absolutely should take back money as long as it's not more than 2 to maybe 3 or 4 years (or for a somewhat useful player at least). But you're spot on. This gets the bidders up to at least 10 teams, probably more.
