Blockbuster with Edmonton

Description
This is completely predicated on another first round exit for us, which seems likely right now. Sully can not return as HC. We have been failing over and over again for 4 years now. This team will need major changes because our division opponents are almost all in a better spot than we are going forward. Our prospect pool is awful and we need draft capital. We have very few pieces to offer anyone that will net good prospects or high draft picks. Malkin will probably be gone after next year and if he is not then we are only delaying the inevitable. He is a PP specialist at this point in his career but not a top six forward at even strength. Rust will either go to Seattle or leave via UFA in another year. The only valuable assets we have are Sid, Jake, McCann, Kap, and Marino. Sid is a Penguins as long as he wants to be. McCann and Kap are only going to get better and same with Marino. The ZAR, Blueger, and Tanev line is a good pairing but you're in trouble when that is your most consistent line. Sid is getting mugged and we can not continue to have him playing with two wingers who are not strong against the boards. He can't keep getting beat up and trying to retrieve the puck. We need someone on his line who can do that. Also, we need to think about the future. This team is not winning a cup with this core again. Giving up prospects or picks to chase the next rental forward is stupid and Hex will know better. Poulin, Legare, and the youngster I am getting from Edmonton are all nearly NHL ready and we will be better off making this deal in the long run. I do not expect Jake to get traded, but I would support this deal or something similar because he is the most valuable piece we have that would/could be moved. Lastly, we desperately need a veteran goalie to split time with Jarry. Halak is a capable 1B.

I doubt the Oilers would have to throw in a second on top of Holloway, Broberg and Lavoie to nab Guentzel.

Guentzel with Draisaitl would be a dream, though.

Very rarely does a team trade their 2 best prospects. Even though Edmonton desperately needs a winger like Guentzel. I just can't see Broberg and Holloway ever being in the same deal

Far too much for a guy who often disappears in the playoffs. Adding Holloway is a bridge too far for sure.

He does not disappear in the playoffs. LOL that is beyond stupid. Look at his production before this year. The guy has some of the best playoff performances of anyone in the league

I would be willing to drop the pick. I really want the prospects who are almost NHL ready

Savard had a pretty poor year. Foligino could get 3 mill though.

Look at the last 3 years: 2 goals, 5 points and minus-4 in 13 games. Pretty underwhelming.

Dropping the pick doesn't get the deal done.

Doesnt matter, Savard is a Top 4 RHD, he is looking for a pay day I expect 4.5 to be the lowest he will accept, Foligno will get 4-4.5

And that’s not on hi. Crosby is not the same player he was in 2017 and he’s getting mugged every shift. Jake with McDavid would score 80-90 points next year

Do you want to win now or not? It’s been pretty embarrassing. McDavid has not even sniffed post season success. Sid already had a cup by this point

You think McDavid doesn't get mugged every shift? Not a single penalty drawn in the past 4 games - Crosby has drawn 2 in 5 games so far. I like Guentzel but there's no chance Edmonton gives up all of their recent #8 pick + #15 pick + #38 pick + a mid-2nd pick for him. That's just ridiculous.
