I would make this move if I were the Flames, but I doubt the Sabres have any interest in Monahan. I can also guarantee Monahan has Buffalo on his NTC

One season where Reinhart shoots 41% above his career average and barely outproduces Monahan playing through a hip injury does not make him better when Monahan has significantly outperformed him for their entire careers. Not to mention Monahan is actually a full time center and has 2 years of contract security to Reinhart’s one. It’s really not close, Monahan is worth much more.

I agree but Tre has a history of getting younger players to sign their qualifying offer, look back to Mangiapane everyone thought he was due for a pay raise coming out of entry level and signed his qualifying offer

Calgary definitely should not make that trade, Reinhart had a career year and Monahan had the exact opposite. The difference between the 2 is a mid round pick max. Not an NHL ready top end prospect

Monahan is worth less not much more lol. Monahan hasn't passed 50 points in 3 years and has terrible underlying numbers across the board. You're delusional and high if you think he is worth much more lol. Also Reinhart is an RFA and Monahan is a UFA, so Reinharts contract is much more favourable

Ah yes, using hard numbers in pandemic shortened seasons. Here are some hard numbers for you then. Rrinhart has one season with 51 or more points to Monahan’s 5. Reinhart has 0 seasons with 26 or more goals to Monahan’s 5. Reinhart has 0 career playoff games. Reinhart is an RFA with arb rights who can force his way to UFA next summer, and based on recent comments, likely will if not traded before arbitration.

Are you sitting here and arguing a player who goes to RFA status will be harder to retain than a player who has UFA status? LMFAO
And having 0 games in the playoffs means literally nothing. Like I can't think of a worse thing to bring up to describe a players value. Congrats
Eichel for Derek Ryan? Nah Eichel has 0 playoff games

Yes? He can force his way out in 1 year, and appears to want out of Buffalo. That means he has one year of contract security for the sabres. Monahan has 2 years remaining in his contract. 2 is bigger than 1 if you didn’t know, I know math is hard for some people but this isn’t exactly a crazy concept. And having 0 playoff games in 7 years doesn’t indicate that he’s near as good as people are making him out to be. If he was that effective surely he woulda been able to help the sabres sneak into the playoffs at least once, given that he’s playing with a guy everyone can agree is a top 10 centre. Edmonton sucks and offered McDavid no support and they’ve still made the playoffs a couple times.
