I feel a contract termination would be the best case scenario for both TOR & Marner. Gives him a chance to start fresh while TOR gets rid of the entirety of that cap hit.

bro he was top 5 in points at 23 years old we don't want a contract termination, and he doesn't need a fresh start

Well then what are you going to say after he fails to elevate his play tonight & the Leafs lose the series?

Lol... tell me you know nothing about this hockey without telling me you don't know anything about hockey.. you just did that pretty well 😂

If his defensive results are "boosted from playing alongside Matthews & Hyman" then explain why he plays PK alongside Spezza and usually Mikheyev or Kerfoot?

If you actually watched a game (I can tell by you're "he does a lot puck watching & just stands around comment" that you clearly don't watch Toronto at all), you'd see that your statement couldn't be further from the truth. Watch him on the PK. He's frequently if not always the guy attacking the puck on both sides and using a quick stick to force turnovers and kill more time off the PP. He'll then attack offensively on the PK to kill even more time before getting off. He's the best PK forward on the team and you trash him after not watching any games 😂

I haven’t been able to catch every game of the series but I know far too well that he doesn’t show up to contribute defensively. I’m not talking about PK there, he’s really strong in that aspect no doubt. But at 5v5 he is a ghost. Doesn’t mark his opponent & turns away from every puck battle. Being an effective playoff performer starts with committing to your defensive assignments & he can’t achieve that.

Stick to your own team for defensive play. You clearly don't know what good defence is and haven't watched Marner play. 😂

that despite playing very well defensively and being the best PK forward on the team this series he had mediocre production by his standards (4 points in 5 games, 66 points over 82 game pace). And that's not gonna happen, Leafs aren't losing this series. Look I'm not saying he's playing his best hockey right now but he was among the top players this regular season and hasn't played himself into a position where the Leafs want to get rid of him, or a situation where many teams wouldn't give up many good assets to get him

Honestly we’re not asking a lot from Marner, but since we know he’s a perimeter player who’s not going to contribute much away from the puck, we need him to score or at least generate some chances & he hasn’t even done that. It’s just disappointing to watch Nylander & Matthews play at a dominant level whereas Mitch fades. And he always has faded.

he has 4 assists in 5 games its not great but its not horrible. For the average player, that's a great series. You don't get top 5 in points by being a perimeter player. "Doesn't contribute much away from the puck" have you watched this season, or this series? He's been the best penalty killing forward. also sound defensively, there's a reason why when there's an empty net, he's one of the three forwards that Keefe immediately looks to
